What We Do
Established in 2022, Smoky Mirror Arts Company was born as a visionary platform dedicated to empowering and nurturing the creative talents of teens and young adults with disabilities and from LGBTQIA+ communities.
Our Mission
Our mission at Smoky Mirror Arts Company is to empower and inspire teens and young adults with disabilities and from LGBTQIA+ communities through inclusive, professional theatre experiences. We aim to foster creativity, build confidence, and provide the skills necessary for a successful transition into the performing arts industry, all within a supportive and collaborative environment.
“The success of the company lies mostly in the approach taken to reworking structures that have never catered for neurodivergent, disabled, and marginalised performers. If we aren’t represented in any shows, let’s write our own. If we don’t like to sit still and talk, let’s move around. If we really like a song, let’s work it into the show. If we’ve never danced, let’s learn! I believe it’s this holistic and fluid structure that sets SMAC apart from other charities and performance companies. Not only is the show itself imagined up by its cast, but the format of rehearsals, teaching styles, and scheduling are all created around the specific needs of each cast. The performances themselves are only a fraction of the huge effort that is put into the company.”
